HTC Desire HD vs iphone4

Hello people,

My husband promised me to buy a new smartphone since before we gotten married. To keep his promise, he asked me which smartphones do I like to owned. That's the tricky part, when I have to choose which smartphone can suit me the best.

After browsing the net, I found top 10 best smartphones:
10) Nokia N8
9) Blackberry Torch

8) Motorola Droid X

7) Samsung Omnia 7

6) Samsung Galaxy SII

5) Google Nexus S

4) Sony Xperia Arc

3) LG Optimus 3D

2) HTC Desire HD

1) Iphone4

So, I have decided to consider either iphone4 or HTC Desire HD. It was not an easy task to decide which is the best for me, because both of them look appealing and they basically got all the things that I want.

I googled on the net to get clearer idea about their OS, specs, and customer review. Those are the comparisons for the two very different pieces of ground-breaking technology, iphone4 and the HTC Desire HD.

1. Connectivity
Iphone4 comes with 3G/HSDPA (7.2Mbps), 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and bluetooth 2.1 with EDR. While HTC also has 3G/HSDPA (7.2Mbps), 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and bluetooth 2.1 with EDR/A2DP. So, they are draw in this case. (1-1)

2. Dimensions
iphone : 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm, 137g
HTC : 123 x 68 x 11.8mm, 164g

In this case, HTC look bulky compared to the iphone. It's more likely due to the bigger screen, but it's heavier than iphone. Though 27g does not make much difference, but I would say iphone4 is better in this spec. (2-1)

3. Display/Screen
iphone : 3.5in, 640 x 960, 326 dpi, TFT-LCD
HTC : 4.3in, 480 x 800, 240 dpi, LCD

From the looks, we can clearly seen HTC wins over iphone4. But when it comes to the resolution, iphone4 is much better than HTC, where HTC suffers from having just 216.977 pixels per inch compared to iphone4, 329.714 pixels per inch. So, I would say iphone is more superior than HTC for this case. (3-1)

4. Performance
iphone : Apple A4 CPU, 512 Mb
HTC : 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 Snapdragon 768 Mb
Both of them have high performance, but since HTC offers more RAM than the iphone, so HTC wins in this spec. (3-2)

5. Camera
iphone : 5MP, AF, Flash, 720p video capture
HTC : 8MP, AF, Flash, 720p video capture
Though HTC offers bigger resolution for the camera, but iphone offers front facing camera for video chat. Therefore, both of them are even in this case. (3-2)

6. Storage
iphone : 32Gb
HTC : 1.5 Gb + expansion with microSD
Since the storage for iphone is fixed, maximum for 32Gb, therefore HTC wins in this battle. This is because HTC is capable to have more storage with the help of the microSD card. (3-3)

7. Software
iphone : iOS4
HTC : HTCSense + Android 2.2
Both OSes have their own advantages. iOS has integrated video editing and access to a huge amount of apps in the Apps Store, while HTC offers a Wi-Fi hotspot feature and support flash 10.1 for a better web browsing. So, let call it draw. (3-3)

8. Battery life
iphone : 7 hours talk time, 300hours standby time
HTC : 9 hours talk time, 420 hours standby time
So, it is obvious that HTC is again, win. (3-4)

9. Price*
iphone : approx ¥48 000
HTC : approx ¥23 000
HTC is lot cheaper than the iphone, which is more than half of the price of an iphone. Therefore, HTC saves more money while still promising us great performance. Hence, HTC has the advantage over the iphone in this case. (3-5)
*Price is based on Japan sales

So, that was a close one, where HTC won over iphone with 5-3. But that does not mean iphone is dead in the water. In general, both of them have great technology, offers great experience for the users. Therefore, I chose HTC Desire HD as my next smartphone :)
